Thank you for your interest in joining NBL-Africa, the premier international basketball exposure league and official partner of the National Basketball League-United States.

Before completing your registration, please carefully review the following information to fully understand the structure, expectations, and opportunities associated with participation in NBL-Africa.


ABOUT NBL-AFRICA

NBL-Africa is a college and professional exposure basketball league designed to provide elite athletes across Africa and internationally with a platform to compete, develop, and gain visibility.

The inaugural season will feature:

  • 12 Men’s Teams & 12 Women’s Teams
  • Representation across:
    • South Africa
    • Zimbabwe
    • Botswana
    • Namibia
  • Expansion into additional African countries beginning in late 2027

2027 SEASON DETAILS

  • Season Dates: May 28, 2027 – August 29, 2027
  • Format: 24 Regular Season Games + Playoffs
  • Game Play: Governed by official FIBA rules
  • Competition Level: Elite amateur, collegiate, and professional exposure

TRYOUT & TEAM LOCATIONS

Tryouts and team placements will take place across the four founding countries:

  • South Africa – Major cities including Durban, Johannesburg & Cape Town
  • Zimbabwe – Harare & surrounding regions
  • Botswana – Gaborone
  • Namibia – Windhoek

Additional regional tryouts and scouting opportunities may be announced.


PLAYER ELIGIBILITY

To participate in NBL-Africa, all applicants must:

  • Be 16 years of age or older
  • Demonstrate competitive basketball experience
  • Be physically able to compete at a high level
  • Maintain professional conduct both on and off the court

NBL-Africa welcomes:

  • High school prospects
  • College athletes
  • Unsigned players
  • Professional and international players

TEAM ROSTER STRUCTURE (2027)

Each team will consist of:

  • 10–12 total players
    • 3 United States players
    • 7 Local (in-country) players
    • Up to 2 Continental African players

This structure is designed to maximize local development while maintaining international competition standards.


MEDIA & EXPOSURE

All NBL-Africa games will be broadcast live on
New Era Sports TV

Players will receive:

  • Full game film
  • Highlight packages
  • Verified statistics
  • Exposure to scouts, agents, and recruiters worldwide

PLAYER PATHWAY OPPORTUNITIES

Participation in NBL-Africa provides direct access to:

  • U.S. college basketball opportunities
  • Professional contracts internationally
  • Advancement into:
    • NBL-United States
    • NBL-Caribbean
    • Other global partner leagues

⚠️ IMPORTANT REGISTRATION NOTES

  • Registration does not guarantee team placement
  • All players must participate in tryouts, evaluations, or scouting processes
  • Selected players will be contacted with next steps, including team assignment and season preparation
  • Players are expected to comply with all league rules, policies, and scheduling requirements

Players selected for NBL-Africa should be prepared to:

  • Attend all team practices and games
  • Travel within their assigned region/country

PLAYER REGISTRATION AGREEMENT

By registering for NBL-Africa, you (“Participant”) agree to the following Terms & Conditions set forth by New Era Sports Management, operators of NBL-Africa and partner organization of the National Basketball League-United States.


1. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

By registering, the Participant confirms:

  • They are 16 years of age or older
  • They are physically able to participate in competitive basketball activities
  • They have provided accurate and truthful information during registration
  • They agree to comply with all league rules and regulations

Participants under 18 must have parent or legal guardian consent.


2. NO GUARANTEE OF TEAM PLACEMENT

  • Registration and/or tryout participation does not guarantee selection to any NBL-Africa team
  • Team placement is based on:
    • Skill level
    • Team needs
    • Evaluation by coaches and league personnel

All decisions made by NBL-Africa staff are final and non-negotiable.


3. PLAYER CONDUCT & PROFESSIONALISM

Participants agree to:

  • Display professional behavior on and off the court
  • Respect teammates, coaches, officials, and league staff
  • Follow all rules governed by FIBA

NBL-Africa reserves the right to:

  • Suspend or remove any participant for misconduct
  • Terminate participation without refund (if applicable)

4. MEDIA & IMAGE RELEASE

By participating in NBL-Africa, the Participant grants permission to:

  • Be photographed and filmed
  • Have their name, image, and likeness used for:
    • Broadcasts on New Era Sports TV
    • Social media
    • Promotional and marketing materials

This usage is worldwide and royalty-free.


5. INJURY WAIVER & LIABILITY RELEASE

Participant acknowledges and agrees:

  • Basketball is a physically demanding sport with inherent risks
  • NBL-Africa, its staff, partners, and affiliates are not liable for injuries, accidents, or damages sustained during participation

Participants assume full responsibility for their health and physical condition.


6. MEDICAL CONSENT

Participants agree:

  • They are medically cleared to participate
  • In the event of an emergency, NBL-Africa staff may seek necessary medical treatment on their behalf

All medical costs are the responsibility of the Participant.


7. TRAVEL & ACCOMMODATION

Participants understand:

  • Travel may be required within assigned countries or regions
  • Housing and transportation responsibilities will be communicated upon selection
  • Certain costs may be the responsibility of the player unless otherwise specified

8. FEES & PAYMENTS (IF APPLICABLE)

  • Any registration, tryout, or participation fees are non-refundable, unless otherwise stated
  • Payment terms will be clearly outlined prior to commitment

9. SCHEDULING & COMMITMENT

Participants agree to:

  • Attend scheduled practices, games, and team activities
  • Be available for the full season:
    • May 28, 2027 – August 29, 2027
  • Participate in media and promotional obligations

Failure to meet commitments may result in removal from the league.


10. PLAYER PATHWAY & OPPORTUNITIES

NBL-Africa provides exposure opportunities to:

  • College programs
  • Professional organizations
  • NBL-United States and partner leagues

However:

  • The league does not guarantee scholarships, contracts, or endorsements
  • Opportunities are based on individual performance and external decisions

11. RULES & GOVERNING BODY

All gameplay and competition will follow:

  • Official FIBA rules
  • Additional league-specific policies and regulations

Participants must adhere to all league standards.


12. TERMINATION OF PARTICIPATION

NBL-Africa reserves the right to terminate participation if a player:

  • Violates league rules
  • Engages in misconduct
  • Fails to meet expectations

Termination may occur without refund or compensation.


13. DATA PRIVACY

Participant information will be used for:

  • League operations
  • Communication
  • Recruitment and exposure opportunities

NBL-Africa will not sell personal data but may share relevant information with:

  • Coaches
  • Scouts
  • Partner organizations

14. AGREEMENT & ACCEPTANCE

By clicking “I Agree” and completing registration, the Participant confirms:

  • They have read and understood all Terms & Conditions
  • They voluntarily agree to participate under these terms
  • They accept all risks and responsibilities associated with participation

REGISTRATION & PARTICIPATION PAYMENT TERMS

This Refund Policy is established by New Era Sports Management, operator of NBL-Africa and partner of the National Basketball League-United States.

By completing registration and submitting payment, all participants agree to the following terms:


1. NON-REFUNDABLE REGISTRATION FEES

  • All registration and tryout fees are non-refundable
  • Payments secure your opportunity to be evaluated and considered for participation
  • Submission of payment confirms your commitment to the process

2. NO REFUNDS FOR NON-SELECTION

  • Participants who are not selected for a team are not eligible for a refund
  • Registration covers evaluation, exposure, and administrative processing

3. PARTICIPANT WITHDRAWAL

If a participant chooses to withdraw:

  • Before tryouts: No refund
  • After tryouts or selection: No refund
  • During the season: No refund

All payments are considered final once submitted.


4. MISSED TRYOUTS OR EVENTS

  • Failure to attend scheduled tryouts, combines, or events does not qualify for a refund
  • Participants are responsible for attending all scheduled activities

5. REMOVAL OR DISQUALIFICATION

  • Participants removed due to:
    • Violation of league rules
    • Misconduct
    • Failure to meet expectations

will not receive a refund under any circumstances.


6. INJURY OR MEDICAL WITHDRAWAL

  • Injuries or medical conditions do not qualify for refunds
  • Participants are responsible for their own health and insurance

7. TRAVEL & PERSONAL EXPENSES

NBL-Africa is not responsible for refunds related to:

  • Flights
  • Hotels or housing
  • Transportation
  • Meals or personal expenses

Participants are advised to make flexible travel arrangements when possible.


8. LEAGUE CANCELLATION OR RESCHEDULING

In the event NBL-Africa must cancel or reschedule events due to:

  • Unforeseen circumstances
  • Safety concerns
  • Government restrictions
  • Force majeure (weather, emergencies, etc.)

NBL-Africa reserves the right to:

  • Reschedule events
  • Offer credit toward future events
  • Provide partial refunds at its sole discretion

9. TRANSFER POLICY

  • Registration fees are non-transferable to another player
  • Transfers to future events or seasons are not guaranteed and may be considered on a case-by-case basis

10. PAYMENT DISPUTES

By registering, participants agree:

  • Not to initiate chargebacks or payment disputes without contacting NBL-Africa first
  • Unauthorized disputes may result in:
    • Removal from the league
    • Permanent ineligibility for future participation

11. FINAL POLICY ACKNOWLEDGMENT

All payments made to NBL-Africa are:

  • Final
  • Non-refundable
  • Subject to the terms outlined above
