Athletes, Parents and Coaches:

Jefferson Township Youth Baseball (JTYB), in conjunction with the Jefferson Township Recreation Department, supports the CHARACTER COUNTS program as part of our baseball program. As part of your involvement in the JTYB baseball program, you are required to read over the CHARACTER COUNTS guidelines on this page and e-sign on the appropriate line below. Failure to do so will unfortunately result in not being allowed to participate in the JTYB baseball program.

Character Counts: The Character Counts guidelines are trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.

1. Trustworthiness: Promote integrity in the program by being honest, fair and sincere.

2. Respect: Promote modesty in victory and graciousness in defeat. Show respect for teammates, coaches, opponents and officials. Do not engage in arguments or be verbally or physically abusive.

3. Responsibility: Ensure that their athlete’s sports experience is one of fun and enjoyment (winning is only part of it).

4. Fairness: Adhere to both the letter and the spirit of the playing rules. Never evade or violate the rules to gain an advantage.

5. Caring: Care more about the development and overall well-being of the athletes rather than winning.

6. Citizenship: Promote a sense of good will in the community by being a good citizen and uphold the

principles of sportsmanship.

Violation Procedure: The following procedures will be followed when someone has been involved in a violation of the CHARACTER COUNTS guidelines:

1. Infraction shall be reported to the Director of the league.

2. The Director will coordinate a meeting with the JTYB Conflict Resolution Committee to discuss and settle the violation based on the CHARACTER COUNTS guidelines. During this time and until the Conflict Resolution Committee makes a final determination, the individual will be suspended from all JTYB activities and banned from facilities where JTYB events are in progress.

3. All parties will be notified of the outcome and any additional suspension or penalty.

By checking the box and inputting your signature below, you are indicating that you have received, read and understand the Character Counts – Sports League Ethics Code and will abide by them. You are also agreeing that if you fail to follow these rules and guidelines while attending, coaching, officiating or participating in any youth sports organization event with regard to any participating team that you may be subject to disciplinary action including, but not limited to the following:

 Verbal warning by official, head coach, and/or head of league organization, as appropriate.

 Suspension or immediate ejection from a youth sports event by the Township of Jefferson Police Department, JTYB, Township of Jefferson Recreation Department, or the youth sport organization conducting the game.

 Suspension from multiple youth sports events issued by the JTYB, Township of Jefferson Recreation Department, and/or the youth sport organization involved; as appropriate.

 Game suspension with written documentation of incident kept on file by the organization involved; as appropriate.

 Game forfeit through the game official; as appropriate.

 Season suspension or multiple season suspension as issued by the JTYB, Township of Jefferson Recreation Department, and/or the youth sports organization involved.

Photo release: By “e-signing” below you are agreeing to give permission for photos of your child to be used in any and all media outlets (TV, print, internet, etc.). You understand that by “e-signing” below that his/her picture may be used, but it is not guaranteed.
