Lions Football Players' Code of Conduct

As a player, I hereby pledge to be positive about my Lions Football experience and accept responsibility for my participation by adhering to the following Code of Conduct:

1. Commitment and Attendance

I will attend every practice and game that I can and will notify my manager or coach in advance if I cannot make it.

I understand that I am expected to be on time for all training sessions, games, and team activities, including during injury (to observe and listen), unless ill.

2. Respect and Sportsmanship

I will respect the rules of the game, my opponents, teammates, coaches, officials, and administrative staff.

I will not engage in unsportsmanlike conduct, rude behavior, fighting, or attempts to injure anyone on purpose.

I will refrain from making any comments toward opponents or game officials.

I will demonstrate courtesy and respect at all times, remembering that I represent my team, family, and club.

3. Team Focus and Professionalism

I will put personal goals aside for the betterment of the team and understand that the team’s success comes first.

I will show a professional attitude, appearance, and mature behavior on and off the field.

I understand that a team’s reputation is built not only on its playing ability but also on sportsmanship.

4. Health and Safety

I will respect my coaches, trainers, parents, medical professionals, and any decisions made regarding my health and safety.

I will report any injuries or health concerns to the coaching staff before practices or games.

5. Personal Conduct

I will not engage in rude behavior, cursing, smoking, or any actions that could reflect poorly on the club, especially while wearing Lions jerseys or team wear.

I understand that my conduct on and off the field represents my club and should always be positive and respectful.

6. Feedback and Development

I understand that I will receive ongoing evaluations (verbal and/or written) to enhance my development.

I will communicate any feedback or concerns respectfully to the Head Coach, Assistant Coach, or Manager, away from other players or parents.

7. Adherence to Guidelines

I understand that I may be removed from the team if I fail to follow these guidelines.

8. Enjoying the Experience

Above all, I pledge to have fun and fully engage in the Lions Football experience with positivity and enthusiasm.
Parent Code of Conduct and Responsibilities

By registering your player, you are accepting the VICFA/OYFA rules and regulations and committing to the following Code of Conduct:

1. Positive Influence on Your Child
As a parent, I commit to being a positive influence on my child’s growth and development through sports by:

Providing continuous positive reinforcement, recognizing that effort and performance are more important than just success.

Focusing on my child’s confidence, dissociating love and acceptance from performance.

Demonstrating emotional discipline and modeling appropriate behavior.

Being a supportive parent, not a coach, by helping my child understand and gain perspective from their coach’s decisions.

2. Parent’s Commitment to Sportsmanship
I agree to the following principles:

I will not force my child to participate in sports; they do so voluntarily for their enjoyment.

I will avoid living vicariously through my child and maintain realistic expectations.

I will teach my child that winning isn’t everything, to handle victory with humility, and to view losses as opportunities to improve.

I will praise my child’s performance and support their efforts, regardless of outcomes.

I will respect and support the decisions of coaches, officials, and administrators.

I will model good sportsmanship and refrain from negative comments or actions toward others.

I will ensure my child’s well-being by providing proper rest, hydration, and nutrition, and being punctual for practices and games.

I will address concerns respectfully and away from game or training facilities.

3. Sideline Etiquette

Only authorized volunteers and team personnel are permitted on the bench side of the field.

Spectators should enjoy the game from the designated spectator areas to ensure a focused and safe environment for players and coaches.

4. Volunteer Conduct
We value parent volunteers and ask that you respect the roles of coaches and players. Volunteers such as play counters and stick crew should minimize interactions during the game and follow the referee’s instructions.

5. Cheering with Class

Support your team with enthusiasm but refrain from negative comments about the opposing team.

Show respect to opponents, congratulating them on well-played moments.

6. Respect for Officials

Our officials, often young and still learning, deserve courtesy and respect. Avoid verbal abuse or berating them.

7. A Developmental League
This league provides a platform for growth for players, coaches, and officials. Support their development with encouragement and a positive attitude.

8. Supporting VICFA/OYFA’s Legacy
Your role as a supportive spectator and parent contributes to the success and legacy of our league, which has fostered athletes and coaches at the CFL, NFL, and other levels. Thank you for setting a positive example.

9. Commitment to Attendance and Respect

I understand that my child is expected to attend all team activities (even during injury, unless ill) and notify team officials in advance of any absences.

I will respect coaching and administrative staff, referees, and my peers. Negative behavior or comments will not be tolerated.

10. Consequences for Non-Compliance

Any breach of these guidelines may require me to complete the online Respect in Sport program at my own expense.

Repeated breaches may result in my child’s removal from team activities.

Thank you for contributing to a positive, respectful, and enriching environment for all participants in VICFA/OYFA football.
